FIFA suspends All India Football Federation

- The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in India from 11-30 October 2022 will also not be held.

New delhi date. 16 August 2022, Tuesday

The world's biggest football body i.e. FIFA made an announcement regarding the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday. FIFA has decided to suspend AIFF with immediate effect. The decision was taken unanimously by the Bureau of the FIFA Council. FIFA has stated that the decision was taken due to undue influence of third parties in AIFF which is a serious violation of FIFA law.

An official media release issued by FIFA said that the All India Football Federation has cited third party interference as the reason for the suspension by FIFA. According to FIFA, this type of interference is against FIFA rules. For this reason, India is on the verge of being stripped of hosting the U17 Women's World Cup, but there is still some time left.

FIFA also said that the suspension will be lifted as soon as the order is received. The Committee of Administrators has been abolished to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee and the AIFF administration takes full control of the day-to-day affairs of the AIFF. The press release further stated that the suspension means that the FIFA U-17 Women's Football World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in India from 11-30 October 2022 will not be held in India as currently planned.

FIFA is also evaluating the next steps regarding the tournament and will refer the matter to the council's bureau if necessary. A FIFA press release further stated that FIFA is in constant touch with the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and hopes that the case can still have a positive outcome. If this happens, this big crisis can be removed from Indian football.
