BCCI has shortlisted Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the largest stadium for the World Cup Final. That means the final is almost certain to happen here. The tournament will last for 46 days. Meanwhile, a total of 48 matches including 3 playoffs will be played between 10 teams.

Which other venues were shortlisted?

For all these matches BCCI has shortlisted Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamshala, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Rajkot and Mumbai along with Ahmedabad. However, ICC tournament dates are announced a year in advance. But this time the BCCI is waiting for the approval of the Government of India on some important issues. The two main issues are visa approval for the Pakistan team and tax exemption for the tournament.

Guaranteed visa to Pakistan

The last ICC meeting was held in Dubai. Reports said that in this meeting, the BCCI assured that Pakistan will get a visa to tour India for the World Cup. As far as the tax exemption is concerned, it is also expected that the BCCI will soon update the ICC about the exact position of the Indian government. It may be mentioned that the last bilateral series (Test, ODI, T20) between India and Pakistan was played in December 2012. Then the Pakistan team toured India and the two teams played a series of 2 T20s and 3 ODIs. The T20 series was tied at 1-1. While Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1.
